Question Cloudy eye

I have a 55 gallon that has lots of tetra species, cories, a bristle nosed pleco and a kuhli loach

For a while I had a single female betta, in there, and she started to get a while film on her eye, and at first it was just a spot, but then it covered her whole eye, so I took her out, and then I started to treat her with salt and maracyn (i am clueless about disease sorry) and it isnt clearing up at all.

Then I added 5 new females to the tank, and another one got it!!!
so I took her out, and am not treating her with anything.

I think that it could be because I haven't cleaned out the filter in a while, since it's a canister filter, and I don't know how it works, but can you tell me how to treat the 2 girls who have it?

Cloudy eye is typically associated with poorer water conditions. Melafix is a great thing to get. Just treat the entire tank, it's very safe. That should clear it up, and keep up on your water changes. Some fish are just more suseptible to it, I think.

It does sound like a water quality issue. What are your params. for ammonia, nitrIte, nitrAte and ph?

You should be able to find how to do maintenance on your canister filter on YouTube if you need an actual demo or on the filter manufacturer's website.

If you can tell me what type of filter you have and what you have in all of the filter baskets, I can probably help with how to clean it out.

I have a fluval 70 gallon.. im not sure of the exact number.
uh
nitrites:0
ammonia:0
nitrates:Almost the lowest on the test strip... i forget the #
and the ph is very high
I added oak leaves, but last time I checked it was a 9, because I get my water from a well, and for some reason it's ph is very high.
It should be around an 8 though now
