I have a 29 g tank with 4 zebra danios and 1 german blue ram. Zebras are fine but the Ram has been acting stressed for a 2 days. So i've done several tests Ammonia came out to 2.0.

I was about to do a water change today and bought 5 gallons of bottled water. I tested that out of curiosity and that has 0 mg.

What should i do? I want to save that ram i don't want him to die.

Please Help!
Thanks

Yeah apparently not long enough. Can i remove the ram and place him in a rectangular betta tank? with ammonia free water? I did the 25% water change level is the same.. Im thinking of doing a 60% water change..

I just want to get the ram out of that tank i know the ammonia is not going to get low in time..

I can see him breathing pretty heavy. And hes been like this for 2 or 3 days

That's true, but until it starts working the high ammonia is really harming the fish. I really have no idea how effective this would be, but maybe try dosing the Bio-spira directly into your filter? That way it might be able to stick to your filter media easier so not as much gets removed via water changes.

Plus, if there's abundant food sources (i.e. ammonia and nitrate) the bacteria in the Bio-spira should be reproducing very rapidly.

Thanks everyone for the help. The ram is getting worse. I dont think hes going to make it overnight. He cant swim much any more. He goes up to the top to breath and then slides back down side ways..

I feel bad for him but there's nothing more I can do except learn from all this. I did learn a lot . I'm not going to add any more fish till the water is ready .

Zebras are doing fine..

Thanks again :)

Well the danios and ram are pretty much at opposite ends of the hardiness scale, with the danios being a good choice for cycling fish and the rams being difficult to keep even for more experienced fishkeepers with established tanks.

Unless the ram is actually sick with something, the water changes should help a lot (even if he is sick, they'll still help). If he's looking bad tonight, maybe do another 50% water change, and dose more Bio-spira into your filter?
