The plants will use any form of nitrogen they can get and will help to keep the ammonia down because it has nitrogen. FOr cycling with fish I would suggest to have plenty of plants to try and keep levels down.

Wisteria, Hygrophila Diformis
Both are very good for using up nitrogen and will help with the cycle.

I am not sure that plastic plants are designed yet to use or soak up ammonia, nitrites or nitrates. That is unless they have come up with something new.
