one month after hurricane ike- all of my aquariums are finally back to normal!
i was out of electricity for 5 days, and i only had 1 battery operated power pump that i had to take turns using in all three of my aquariums.... all of my aquariums had to cycle all over again...but it looks like my water tests have put me in the clear now! which is great, cause my poor fish are starving (i've been feeding very sparingly the past several weeks).
i had one hurricane related casualty (moe, my very first fish, r.i.p), he died when my ammonia levels temporarily spiked.
everyone else seemed fine and healthy the entire time, nobody got red gils or looked sick... but its scarey as hell to cycle tanks while they are fully stocked....and i think i will invest in a generator before next years hurricane season rolls around. at my local LFS they were without power for two weeks, and had to emergency relocate most of their stock. i also hear horror stories of people being without power so long that they lost all their fishies. glad that wasn't me!
living on the gulf coast SUCKS sometimes.
