I'm not sure what you mean by irrelevant comments. I actually like this idea to be honest. Not questions, but personal experience all in one place would be great.

I have shelves of books on aquariums, we're talking everything from The Idiot's Guide to Aquariums all the way up to those expensive Aqualog series books. I read every profile I can find before I buy a fish. Heck, I read them for fun. There is no such thing as too much information in my opinion. It all goes towards the "your mileage may vary" adage. If someone's sparkling gourami eats shrimp I might find that useful. If someone is growing Rotala sp 'nanjenshan' in low light that again would be useful.

What I'm just trying to say is plant and fish profiles are great, but unless they are pages long they can't cover everything. That's where someone's experience comes in handy. It wouldn't be a change to the profiles, but a compliment to them. The reference team would be around to remove any spam or questions.

I agree, while the profiles are good, there are things that I absolutely don't agree with base on my experience with said fish. Having it locked limits the usefulness of the profile, in my opinion. ESPECIALLY when almost all of the profiles were written by the same person..... Not a knock on Byron - just sayin...

Thank you guys for the input, we will certainly keep these comments in mind, the next thing we are working on is getting the reference team up and running soon. There are a few things to iron out but it would be beneficial to the whole forum once up and running.

The profiles are still a major work in progress so for sure we could add / remove options as users see fit and if we feel it will benefit them.

Go Google 'fish forum'. This site should be in the top 4 hits. Check out the 3 sites that are usually above it and see how their species profiles are setup(one may not have one). The same setup is used on more then just those sites including a top planted site, where you have a typical profile started by whatever member decided to start it first. After that other members can post additional info or their experiences in the thread under their own name. Mods simply preview each post in the reference/species profile section. It reduces both mod and member time vs editing an already existing post. Mods should be able to pick out anything irrelevant to the species profile when they preview posts, mods have final say as to what is allowed through. Anything written up to this point under the TeamTFK can more or less be left as is, allow any additions to go underneath it. Could change the 'The following members have contributed to this profile:' to 'written by: blah and blah'(maybe make 1077 happy IDK).

The species threads being locked from posting is a turn off, plain and simple. I have contributed to species profiles before, not here tho, and the main reason is its much more of a hassle here. Like does one have to PM a mod to change something, IDK even. Any site where I have contributed to a species profile its simply add post and you get the message 'your post must be previewed by a moderator before it will appear on the forum.' and when submitted it simply disappears then pops up on the forum anywhere from an hour to a day later after some mod has OKed it.

Also check out how much space other species profiles take up on the main index board elsewhere vs the one here. TFKs doesn't even fit on my laptop's screen and don't want to know how many times I have had to scroll past it. Its simply one of many things that makes the site very frustrating to use. That frustration is the main reason I've quit posting, everything from so many miscategorized threads and neglected sections to recent changes and lack of mod response. It simply became enough is enough for me.

I'm wondering how to minimize this;

If you're not going to fix it you may as well use it.
