I am thinking of adding a fire goby in my tank but i am scared with my hemit as he might eat it as he earlier ate my yellow tail damsel. Plz reply this one.

Test Results :

Nitrate : 30 ppm
alkalinity : 9 dkh
calcium : 420 ppm

It is unlikey that the hermit caught the fish and ate it, not impossible but really unlikey. Instead it might have just died and the hermit started to eat the dead fish.

The last firefish you had got sucked up in the filter? I am not sure how this could happen, but what changes have you made so that it doesn't happen again?

fish are getting sucked into filters and eaten by hermits because they most likely are dying first, then this is the aftermath.
personally i would work on lowering nitrate levels before even considering adding anything else living, but thats just me.

firefish died in QT and damsel died in display. My nitrates were 10ppm in QT. So nitrates was not an issue.

That means i can add goby to my display.

I think all my live rocks are base rocks, no growth even after 6 month, i was fooled by my LFS.

Well, how long does it take a base rock to become a live rock or they remain throughout base rocks. None of my lfs has sand on their tank so no chance of getting any organisms to put in my tank.

Unfortunately Base rock really never becomes LR because it is a different type of Rock. Base rock is generally less porous than LR. And since this rock was not seeded very well and cannot be seeded well it is very unlikely that it will ever carry the inverts and good bacteria that LR normally has. I think that this should be a very high priority to get actual LR. Good Luck and waiting for some new pics!

Okay but i had some growth when i bought the last lot, some purple and green algae on the rocks, but they have not increased anymore. The only thing that increases and decreases is brown mud type hair algar, which looks dirty on the glass as well as on rocks. Might be silicate on my ro water. Wat abt phosphate remover, i have one, should i run it?

I am looking for 1 bi-color blenny.
