All I have for now is the one 36" T8 strip light that came with the tank. It has a 50/50 bulb in it right now. There just isn't nearly enough lighting in there for the colors to pop. Not to mention the only place it will fit inside the hood the way hubby made the stops on it, it will only fit near the back of the tank. Its why all the coraline is growing on the backside and top of all my LR!

Going to hopefully get a new fixture before or right after installing the hardwood floors. 4-T5s w/fan and moonlights, and keep the strip light on as well if they all fit together. I would get it sooner but then I would be tempted to get corals, and like I said earlier I don't want to deal with moving the tank with them in it. We're only going to have to move it a few feet to lay the floor, but it will still be a pretty big deal and we have worked out how we are going to lay it so we can move it at the very end of laying the floor.

when you get the t5's make sure you get individual reflectors for every bulb. makes a huge difference in efficiency in lighting to the corals. and make sure you dont just get 50/50 bulbs. if youd like i can recommend a bulb spectrum combo to really get your colors going.

Ok! Recommend away!

I though about putting in 2 actinics and 2 full spectrums?? The only reason I put a 50/50 in the strip was so I could get it all off the 1 bulb since its the only one there for now.

personally i don't like that combo. it washes out the colors and not enhance the contrast. i would suggest 3x ATI blue +, 1 Fiji purple by korallen zutch. thats the combo i use for my lights to enhance and love the look of it when t5's are the only bulbs on. make sure you look at the manufacturer of the bulbs because its easy to confuse giesemann and ATI bulbs and get the wrong spectrum. they use the simular names for different spectrums. i think you'll be blown away with that combo. you wont believe the difference the combo makes. that fiji purple bulb ehance reds/purples/pinks while the ati bulbs enhanse blues/greens/orange with lots of contrast. and you'll have enough par for coral growth and health.

Well I just looked up Korallen Zutch and their prices are in marks or franks or euros I have no idea! I can't really tell how expensive they are cuz of that..... I can't really afford bulbs that are over $25! Are they decently priced? If not I'll have to get something cheaper.

I don't know if you've read this whole thread or not but I'm a super bargain hunter....LOL

ETA: this is where I found them:http://www.korallen-zucht.de/en/shop...ing/index.html

the difference in price is worth the quality in light. just change them out less frequent.
