Not every shrimp will pair up with every goby, in fact there are only a few that will. The shrimp will 99.9% of the time be a pistol shrimp, also called a snapping shrimp. The pistol shrimp is a bottom dwelling shrimp that digs a hole in the sand to live in. The reason that other shrimp don't pair up with gobies is that they are not generally bottom dwellers. The gobies in the pair are mainly from two families the Stonogobiops and Amblygobius. These fish will for the most part pair up with a shrimp. Some of the other common gobies that pair up are Yellow Watchmen Goby, Yasha Goby, High Fin Goby, Orange Spotted goby, Pinkbar Goby, and Steinitz Goby. These are just a few; and keep in mind that each fish and shrimp is different so they aren't guaranteed to pair up. And to be a buzz killer I am not sure that a panda goby and pistol shrimp will pair up because a Panda Goby spends most of its time of the rocks instead of the sand. Keep up the good work and good luck picking out some fish!

+1 to this. Good research Highland.

I had a Watchman for a while that seemed to have paired with my Blood Red Cleaner Shrimp, but I realized he was just cleaning the Goby every time they were together. I agree with what Highland said.

looking good so far. You might want to hook up a PC actinic to get a little more "blue" into the aquarium.

okay so i just went out and did some dirty work (moving mulch for some new plants, 15 square yards :O) and i now have enough money to pay off my mom for the fish i bought for my freshwaters and for a shrimp or new heater, maybe even a fish. As for fish if that is the route i choose i will get one that i emailed to the LFS to see if they can order it.

I have a few questions though, 1: what should i add first, shrimp or goby?
2: for summer it gets a bit hot here, should i get a mini clamp on fan to cool off the lamp so it doesnt heat the tank so much?
3: can i just make a DIY atinic, silly question but do attinics come in LED or the shape of an LED because im pretty good at messing with LEDs. i could put the light in a medium sized book light that clamps on to the side of the tank and i can just use that as the case and put a atinic with a cord in it.

As for the heater it heats the tank to around 80F and at night the heater struggles to keep it at 78F. i will eventualy get a new one because im planning a refuge, but should i get it now or wait?

So, refuge plans are simple, just gonna sit under the tank in the stand, ill use a bulkhead for intake and pump for out. as for the contents, it will be my skmmer (which is working great), 6inch of sand, about 7lbs of LR, and a little refuge light for some benifitial bacteria. Oh and the heater :P.

i dont think i forgot anything, this update isnt very organized but it will work, please answer the questions above!
