Red Sea Max reviews wanted!

Does anyone have anything to offer regarding the Sea Max 250. I am replacing my reef tank, as I left mine with my ex. Will this be easier than building it from scratch like I did the first time?

The skimmer included in that setup is basically a Prism Skimmer, which performs horribly. First hand experience. I would only consider that setup for 29 gallon tanks or smaller. Not sure if the unit you are looking at comes in different sizes.

It would be considerably easier than building from scratch. They are great tanks (with a few modifications) but be prepared to pay a premium price for a premium product.

The skimmer needs changing. Tunze and deltec seem to have some popular offerings, I think the deltec MCE500 fits in the back on the 250 and the Tunze 9002 fits in the back of the 130 (with an aftermarket collection cup).

I have heard of people having problems with temperature being almost uncontrollable in the summer months (in england btw!) so if you went with the 250 would you be running a chiller? What your climate like?

Just make sure you check out custom options beforehand.

Thanks, I heard about the skimmer needing to be replaced. That is not realy an issue. I've never had one last more than a year or two anyway. I was planning on buying the 66 gallon. I live in southern Illinois and have central air on in the summer. I have had a tank for years and never needed a chiller, but if one is needed because of the lid I guess I will buy one. Thanks for the feedback.
