This is simply amazing Pasfur. I read the majority of this thread and I can't say how impressed I am. If I am ever going to set up a saltwater tank, I will make sure that I come to you for guidance, if that wouldn't be a problem of course. Unfortunately income is limited as I'm only 19 years old (20 in March!), so keeping freshwater is much easier for me. But seeing how you conduct yourself in the art makes it seem...not too difficult at all! One of these days I'll start a saltwater tank...don't know when, but I'll know I have an advantage others don't! ;)

Thanks Kelso. I really enjoyed your 10 gallon puffer tank as well. Anyone reading my thread who hasn't seen Kelso's freshwater system, check it out:

Great thread. Read the whole thing. Pasfur, you have inspired me to go from never attempting a sw tank to desiring one. Too bad I'm sitting on a 55g that's brand new and empty. I guess I'll still make it a fw planted tank. I've been inspired to try in the near future finishing off a room in my basement for an aquarium/computer/cigar smoking man cave and set up a large FOWLR because of you. It sounds like so much fun. Even though I've never done a fw planted tank reading about SW, something I've never even considered before, sounds so much funner and honestly, easier than fw planted.

Now where's my hammer and nails to get started on an aquarium room?

I did that once. Instead of a room, I put a wall up down the middle of basement, installed a breaker box and a few dozen electrical outlets, and set up 48 aquariums. Plus, a 1200+ gallon pond in back yard. It was fun.

Honestly, having been there, I much prefer where I am at today. Granted, I need a "few" more aquariums, but the 2 quality saltwater systems I have today are by far my most enjoyment i've had in fishkeeping.

Oh yeah, I also have a Turtle tank. 2 saltwater tanks and a Turtle tank. And a quarantine tank. And a Betta Bowl. For now, this is all I need. Just this and a pond. And a Seahorse tank. All I need is what I have now, a pond, and a seahorse tank. And a live plant tank. Yeah. All I need is what I have now, a pond, a seahorse tank, and a live plant tank. And maybe a bird. {sigh}

updates

Its only been 2 weeks since my last update, but i'm bored. For those of you who do not know, I am on leave from work, having knee surgery this Thursday. So for the next 4 to 6 weeks I have nothing to do but look at the TV and computer.

Anyhow, I may take some criticism for my newest updates. I became tired of looking at the 180 with just the live rock structure. I felt the tank needed a little something to make it appear a little more elegant. Something to break up the reef structure and give more diversity to the background. So, anyhow, with a little help from a friend, I dug out an old tote from the garage. A 15 year old tote. Then I added some decorations.

{edit 11/24/10 - I have deleted a portion of this due to some Photobucket pictures being removed in error. Unfortunately I don't have hard copies, so these pics are gone.}

I love it. I think a mate for your clown may be cool also.

The last time i used artificial corals was a long time ago, with the exception of some barnacles. I would expect it to turn brown, which will require some soaking in hot water occasionally, perhaps even with a small touch of bleach.

I love the contrast. The white looks really good up next to the dark purple.
