heres an idea of what the top view of the canopy will look like. i want the front to have a clean appearance so hinges will be on the upper side so the front panel and part of the top will lift up. there might be more/different hinges and most likely a different color but picture is for reference.

I don't think it'd be worth it to build a slide mechanism if all you can move them to the side is two feet. I'd look more into something that would let you lift the whole hood.

this was actually considered however installing something of the sort will be costly for one and not permanent for 2, however thanks for the suggestion. im still not sure if im going to do the "slide mechanism" but if i do it will allow enough room for feeding and minor adjustments (to rock/corals) anything big will have to remove the hood by hand. any dosing/testing and such can be done from the sump which will be open.

and thanks guys!!

thinking more about it the dementions i gathered would equal the gallons mentioned however since it is 1/2 thick glass all around it cuts me back to alittle shy of 90 gallons.
i dont even know for 100% if this is tempered glass so this may turn out to be a short build. theres a way of testing it but im just going to take my chances. if she cracks its a good enough excuse to get a shiny new reef ready 75.
i ordered a 1500gph overflow box from glass-holes.com which i originally was going to build myself however this comes complete with drill bit, overflow, bulkheads and even a shirt for an extra 2 greenbacks. i already have a pair of bulkheads laying around so i may just drill my sump.
i also ordered two 3/4s sections of locline for my return and tom. i should be placing an order for a few odds and ends like some magnessium, another media reactor, phosban and some others. then soon ill be picking up a few bulbs which i plan on getting locally (its 3 more dollars local then online) so i dont have to pay additional shipping and worry about them coming broken.
i should be getting alittle more work done in my room this weekend so hopefully this thing isnt far around the corner.
