i love the pulsing xenia,if i ever get a s/water tank,i will have
me one of those, along with pistol shrimp ? i think they are.

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.

a few days ago i was having temperature issues. the coralife digital thermometer was reading 84, 85, 86 F. these things are known for being wrong but i still had to double check. im still not sure what caused the excess heat generation, whether it was a malfunctioning heater, the heat from in the house, heat from submerged pumps... who knows. i plugged in a controller (been sitting with my fish stuff, should have been using it sooner) and sure enough it read 83-84 and i think even at one point 85 F. i turned the heater down and a few days later ( monitoring temps ) seems to have stabalized. heres the controller that reads pH on the top and temp on the bottom.

picked up alittle more cheato algae today too, a guy gave me a 5 gallon bucket packed to the top, literally.

my sisters little pooch

im not a fan of small hyper, barky little dogs but this one i swear is the quietest, calmest thing. i think it was the runt of the litter and that prob. has something to do with it. i believe its a mini pin mixed with something else.

thanks again willow, i like fire cleaner shrimp too, but prefer skunk cleaners as they seem to be more active. my understanding is that the fire shrimp comes from deeper waters so they prefer darkness. mine hid in my tank 24/7 until i fed, until it died out of no where. i think eventually they get used to it and come out but im not sure. they arnt the same thing, so your not completely nuts.. well ..

kidding ofcourse!
kym cheato algae or chaetomorpha algae for the correct full name is used in a refugium. i for sure didnt need as much as i got but a member was "trimming" his and offered it. since mine was looking slim ( i think a crab that i banished to my sump was eating it, which i since have given away ) i jumped on the free offer as stores actually charge for this stuff. what it does is feed off nitrates and excess nutrients to help keep things at 0. this is one of the factors that makes saltwater tanks very easy to keep 0ppm nitrates. ( which would include, protien skimming, water changes, deep sand beds, quality live rock, good flow, and proper feeding habbits )

It doesn't even look like algae. It looks like the grass you stuff Easter baskets with
