small package came

not how i invisioned it to be, but i mounted my standoffs to PVC, drilled a small hole for wiring

and theyre in my hood, again not how i originally planned but this will work for now. i cut off the supports ( not used as supports anymore, the outer shell of the hood does this ) to mount the t5s.

1 bulb is a fiji pink and the other ATI true blue.

Here is my new lighting schedule;

10:00am Blue LEDs on
12:00pm White LEDs on
2:00pm T5s on
6:30pm T5s off
8:00pm White LEDs off
10:00pm Blue LEDs off

im going to keep it like that for some awhile to observe how things do. eventually i would like to get some sort of moonlight or LED for an hour or so after lights out. farther down the road ill have to redo or re-work this canopy as well as my return plumbing...

i made my light period alittle longer.
new schedule:
Blue On - 8 am
White On - 10 am
T5s On - 12 pm
T5s Off - 6:30 pm
White Off - 8 pm
Blue off - 10 pm

so far seems to be working out. i may end up going back to original lighting schedule if excess algae breaks out. to early to tell
i have 3 power strips for this tank and along with the extended lighting period i do not want to see my electric bill this month. any are welcome to take care of that for me, ill just forward the bill lol

as i get a few more things i want ( not need ) plugs should disapear. 2 plugs are for powerheads that will go when i can get ahold of another vortech and one is a 3rd heater to keep my temps steady during these colder months.. i might just eventually get another socket for one of my reef keepers to make things look more "cleaner"
doors for my stand are on the list of things too.

this frag of nuclear greens is alittle experiment im trying. i have them 1/2 inch submerged underwater at the surface up by the lights. they appear to be open and happy so we'll see how quickly they grow.

awhile back i posted about not using the gatorade reactor. i took it out and cut some of the PVC downpipe for some reason? possibly to retrieve a small piece of PVC for another plumbing application, however this basically ruined the piece of pipe by making it to short. good thing i made 2 of these but everything was glued together. without having to make a trip to the store i attached the un-used one to the old shortened pipe, which left me with 2 ball valves and 2 gatorade caps ( one gets used )
instead of typing 1,000 words a picture might explain better;

your not looking at a reflection, and its ugly but its functionable atleast for the time being. by doing this i not only saved a trip to the hardware store but a few bucks in parts. i plan on re-doing my plumbing when i get the chance anyways and this plumbing ( if im still using it then ) will be included in the re-do.

i also changed my aquascape one more time yesterday. i think this is how it will stay atleast for awhile now. i really like it and its more open allowing more flow to pass through.

not so much no, however you want to try to avoid stirring up to much sand as this can release things in your sand causing nutrient spikes. you also have to be very careful where your corals are as you can easily damage them or snap a SPS ( hard ) coral.
you want to be careful in general when you do it. you wouldnt want to slam a rock down on a shrimp or bang it into your glass ( causing scratches or worse a crack )

i wouldnt go changing your tank everyday either but the occasional change shouldnt hurt much.

sometimes with a new fish its good to mix up the rocks a bit to confuse everybody that was already in the tank as they already have established territories. keeping the lights out for a day or two for a new fish addition isnt a bad idea either. again i wouldnt go tossing rocks around often, but alittle change every few months shouldnt hurt much.
not to sound contradicting but consistency of the same aquascape is good though. its also best to keep your hands out of the tank as much as possible.
