im running carbon but ofcourse it can be used for GFO. just make sure its PET type 1 or 2 plastic ( if memory serves me right )

if i had a much, much larger tank and was using one of these i would def. go for the poland spring 3L bottle.

its been a long week.
the 3 clowns in my system have died. originally they showed white spots what i thought to have been ich. i was upset this had been introduced to my system. i let things play out and not long after it appeared to be more velvet then ich ( although things could have started there ) my guess is this can lead back to a not fully QT'd firefish that died shortly after making it into the display, which i didnt bother posting about. now i plan on being fishless atleast until april. this should clear my display problem of both ich and velvet without a host fish. no display fish until atleast april, the QT may see something before then and im debating proactive treatments on some fish.
the good news is fish disease wont effect my inverts and corals. i actually had a small order come into a LFS the other day.

these came from my other tank, spaghetti worms

and the nuclear greens appear to be doing well

i plan a yashia for the pistol but not for another 3 months. at some point i will get one to sit in QT prob. for a 2 month minimum, no more even taking a chance im pissed about those allardi clowns they were a nice pair.

and funny you say that, i actually do think im going to get a maxi, a dendro is also being considered just having trouble finding a frag of one.

i also caught my cat in my sump one to many times today so i stapled the same plastic netting i did to the back of the canopy across the front opening of my sump. its only very temporary ( until i build a door of some kind ) it makes any sump work difficult but now my tank is cat proof. i may create a small access door, good thing i just cleaned my skimmer out before i put it up.

i guess the next things i can work on are sump door, re-doing my plumbing, adding phosban and increasing flow in the display.

sorry to hear you had a loss,
shrimp are one of my favourite things .

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.

heres the water setup, 20g brute for RO/DI which sits in my bathtub when making water.

shower curtain

my unit hooked to plumbing under bathroom sink

TDS 93 on water in

TDS 0 on water out

i have to get a dolly for the trashcan too, would make life easier. last night i noticed a female sexy shrimp with eggs. this morning i either cant see the eggs, she dropped them or shes hiding. even IF she had hatched them with corals, pumps, aiptasia/hydroids, other creatures in the tank they are pretty much spoken for. i would eventually like to prepare a seperate tank for this, if i do find a female with eggs i constructed a temp. breeder that may or may not have success but a better shot then just letting them go free swim the tank ( when they are born they dont crawl yet )

i used an empty soda bottle with a small sqaure cut where i then patched with window screen. i attached a second layer of screen going the other direction. i used 2 1/2 tubes of $1 store super glue gel around the edges to attach the screen.

this prob. wont keep hydroids out and who knows if the fry can even escape but it will be a slow flow area better then the tank

larger plastic netting inside for moma to hold onto

will do. i figure at some point atleast one of my other females will have eggs. the issue with raising shrimp is being as sterile as possible and hydroids are a big killer and can get into small areas which is why its best to have a seperate tank for them. i hope to set one up sometime in the future. porb. a kriesel style tank.
i will also most likely add an airstone if this breeder bottle ever gets into use. if i get a 2+ shrimp success rate at that time i will be happy as i will just add them to the herd. regardless getting eggs would be a good start.
