Well I don't have any secret when it comes to the algae. This tank has gotten a 5 gallon ish water change every 2 weeks since I started it. During these I do rip up some algae and siphon it out. Also I got a maintence tool which is basically a razor blade on a stick that is great for cleaning the glass. I think my clean up crew is also just about right now plus my tang eats everything.

When the tank was new I was having a tough time keeping the Ca, Alk and Mag levels as high as I wanted but ever since I got them to a good place I haven't even had to dose much at all to keep them there. I use ESV Bionic 2 part and Kent Tech M.

Maybe 10 days ago I setup a small hang on fuge with some sand, rubble rock and chaeto. Hopefully that is doing its part and absorbing some nutrients too.

Honestly if I had to guess the single biggest difference in my care of the tank recently which is leading to less algae it would be less wasted food. My 3 fish used to be very shy when I was near the tank and would eat but would be skittish. Now any time I go near the tank around dinner time all 3 are front and center and I get the feeling I could throw in endless pellets and they would never touch the sand.

Got 2 new fish this weekend. A fridmani dottyback that has been on my list since the beginning and a Copperband Butterfly - bad impulse buy we will see if I can get it settled in and eating prepared foods. Both fish are gorgeous I will post some pictures soon. New additions harassed pretty badly by my kole tang. I thought he was gonna kill the CBB day 1 but the next day they are swimming around the tank together like buddies. Also got some new corals in the last few weeks you haven't seen. Pics coming soon :)

It is so much fun to be able to watch a tank build in progress like this. Thanks for sharing. You take awesome pictures, the color is fantastic. Now you need to come here and teach me to do good photos of my fish. :)

goodluck with that copperband.. for the fishes sake. one of my favorites but very hard to keep (and healthy)
i dont think it was wise to add it to a tank this size, esp with a tang already thats pushing its limits in this tank.

you may have to offer live blackworms mixed with your prepared foods and slowly use less and less blackworms to see if it will take to the prepared.

Yes I was planning on trying that. I've also heard of people having good results feeding whole clams and then refilling the shells with a mix of foods to introduce them. Gonna do my best to take good care of the fish. My reef is definitely fully stocked now, no more fish for me. Probably a bit overstocked honestly, tank seems so much more active with 5 fish than it did with 3.
