I was going to ask how you liked the giesmann but it seems like a stupid question..

Did you try any other lighting before settling on the giesmann?

i love the giesemann!! yes i tried t5's before on another tank and liked them too but decided to try something different this time.if i were to do it all over again i would consider the giesemann spectrum mogel fixture. what really makkes the lights are the bulbs. these lights have the finish of a high performance car. looks real nice in a formal room.

The spectra's are awesome (as is everything made by the company though). I saw somebody on UR get a custom modal and it well outperformed the lumenarcs he had previously. Living room friendly too, unlike the lumenarcs.

yes aesthetics as well as performance was of upmost importance to me. i didn't care if the best was an ugly reflector set or some unfinish fixture. this thing was going in my formal living room so the finish was real important. my tank is had to be whisper quiet too. at night you can barely hear water trickle and thats it. it so quiet you can hear the bubbles in the ca reactor! i wanted a whole aquarium experience not just what was in the tank. here's a pic of the whole setup while i was setting it up

and i added this tiny overflow to my custom built tank. it's extremely quiet. you can barely hear anything and i get to use the entire tank for aquascaping.

and all the uglies under the stand. there is nothing outside the tank running or making any noise.

So... if its in your "formal" living room, do you get to sit and watch it that much?
