Ok I've decided to put my tank on here... first time so here i go.
Started in 2003 and it was mainly a fish only tank. i don't have any pics of that because my computer quite on me so i'm using my wifes for now. 2007 i had a 25g full of my 55g that i had to take down due to many moves .
25g setup

The fish.

Then at the beginning of this year i decided to start adding my new stuff...(this was after i moved the tank to my wifes apt before we got married this Oct. :-D)
Finally July had some around (or june can't really remember) and it was time for the 55g
Cycled and pulled live rock from 25g and stacked and moved clown to 55g and got it a friend
I then lost my blenny and my yellowhead jawfish(he's fast so i used the flash to get a good shot)
Time has gone by and my Gargonians suffered some red slime and then i got that taken care of with chemi-clean and then it started dieing for some reason. cut off what's alive and re-mounted the new frags
Then something happened to my tank and it almost cost me all my softies
before
after
They still look pretty pathetic, but my toadstool is looking great!
as are my zoanthids
before
after
it's up to 30 polpys now and i started with 5 i think in sept! 8)
I am having issues with my alk right now it's just at 8dkh and i'm using a buffer to safely pull it back up. it was at 7 before, i don't know if you can see it, but on the right of my birdsnest it bleached because of it.
Thankfully nothing else is suffering because of it. i guess that's what i get for being too lax with my testing.
btw, sorry for the big pics and lack of info, any questions please feel free to ask me. also sorry some are blurry, many of the pics are before i got a little better at photo shooting and i don't use any photo editor, i don't even have one so those are my true colors of my fish tank and corals.
Side shots woot!
Left angled shot
The hard part is getting the start up, my tank set up (stand, canopy, tank, lights) all came out to about $300 because of the great deals i found from my local club. Thank you very much and i'm going to try to get more pics up weekly or when i have a change.
I don't have a sump yet, i plan on building it out of acrylic or perhaps just using a 20g long? idk, but the skimmer for now is a skelter, i'm wanting a euro reef, but we'll see what the funds and the wife will allow.
id get that gorgonian into more flow to prevent algae growth.
and the GSP, IMO should be isolated. i personally keep mine on the sandbed away from rocks. it will grow like a forest fire and you will have a hell of a time trying to remove it from any rock it consumes.
thanks, the gargonian have been moved to a higher flow area in that last shot of them and they have great polyp extention now, and the GSP have been moved to the sandbed on a rock that i want them to blanket. i was thinking of getting them to cover the back glass... a wall of green waving in the flow??? what do you think?
I moved the Purple Monit-cap and mounted it to a rock close the where some of my zoas are.
and here's a better shot of my Thick Branch peach Birdsnest (seriatopora stellata) and where it RTN'd. you can see the polyp extention so it looks a bit healthier
Then i noticed my Eklhorn Montipora is doing something wierd it's kinda going white on the ends. any thoughts?
ive heard in a fragging seminar that if you mount frags laying down instead of like trees you will see better growth as there are more locations for new branches to extend. idk how true this is as ive never kept SPS but i think its worth a shot.
I just read on Liveaquaria that the faster growning corals like this one will turn white on the ends and it's normal. I'm not too worried, but i am considering fraging it and bank it with a club member just incase i have an issue...:-?
i missed it sorry, and i've seen a tank with the entire top of GSP so i think i can keep it under control.. it'll be a lot of fragging in the end, but i think it'll look good and i will post pics of it8)
For my 25g i'm thinking of adding
Double nuclei Orange recordia
Lawnmower Blenny
5 Nassarius Snails
Caribbean Callimorph
3 Single Green Ricordia
Florecent Green Zoanthids
4 Virgin Nerite
I'm not a reef keeper, only have a FOWLR for now... so I can't comment on your suggested coral additions.
but I encourage you to get some nassarius snails! Those guys are so cool to watch, they stay buried in the sand most of the time with their "noses" sticking up and out of the sand like snorkels. As soon as you put food in the tank, they all come busting out of the sand and running around like mad searching for morsels! They have really big feet too, and move pretty quickly for snails. In summary, they are my favorite snails

i agree, they are fun to watch. i call them elephant snails :-D
they come out of the sand in search for peanuts
lol, actually they are meat eaters, so when you feed they're on the prowl for some left overs.
