I float everything I get for 20/30 minutes, then cut off the top and add water at ten minute intervals for the next 30-40 minutes.

I just got some Trochus/Turbo snails. 8 of the them. They didn't have any Astreas, and I am going to wait to get some nass. Plus, my 5 Astreas that are from my 10G eventually.

Pics:

I came home from Snowboarding (for 2 days) and WOW. Hair algae!

Crooked fts:

Hair algae:

Bad pic of a snail:

Skimmer cup when first setup:

24 hour Skimmate:

Skimmer is doing pretty good. Somewhat loud, but I can still sleep, so it is fine.

Let me know.

are those specs of cyano in that first closeup shot of the hair algae? you already know this, but you're gonna want to get to the bottom of that asap if its cyano!

its amazing how quickly that hair algae grew in... at least your snails should have plentyof food to munch on!

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure. I'm just going to say nitrates ATM because the cycle *just* ended, and that I didn't turn on the skimmer untill yesterday.

I'm going to do a WC this weekend to help things out if nothing gets better.

I'm not sure why you'd have GHA. I didn't use a skimmer after my cycle and i didn't have any GHA. Did you check your RO unit with the TDS meter to see if the filter needs to be changed, maybe?

I use LFS water. It has been great for me, plus it gives me an excuse to go to the LFS. I know I should test it, though.

This happened in my 10G as well if you want to go look in the thread. It just came and went like all of the diatoms. So honestly I don't know if it is just my tanks or what.

I'll test the water tomorrow to see whats going on.
