A couple of things on the skimmer. First, remove the sponge pre filter. You should not use any type of particulate filtration. Doing so will trap organic wastes that would otherwise have the opportunity to be skimmed out.

Next, the design of the skimmer is going to cause microbubbles to enter your tank. This is easy to prevent. Just cut a small piece of ladies hose and rubber band it around the output of the skimmer. This will break up the bubbles without slowing the current.

I hope Im not hijacking the thread but Ive got a question about my skimmer now. The prefilter box came with a sponge cut to fit the return side of the prefilter to help prevent the microbubbles from entering tank. Is this ok to use or should it be replaced with something or even ran without it? I never like to assume because it tends to get me in trouble, but I would like to think the manufacturers design can be trusted. By the same token plenty of manufacturers are satisfied with marketing junk/inferior products so I thought I would ask.

In your case, the sponge is after the water flow through the skimmer. It is ok. You just don't want a sponge filtering the water before it enters the skimmer.

There is nothing wrong with blood worms and brine shrimp on occasion, but it isn't highly nutritional. To use it a couple of times per week in your rotation of foods is fine. Just make sure you are giving a good variety of frozen foods, such as Marine Cuisine, Angel Formula, Formual I, Formula II, Plankton, Angel & Butterfly Forumla, etc etc. Just check out the frozen food selection at the LFS and don't just buy a bunch of meaty foods like squid, brine, krill, etc.

I was just doing research and found that speckled sandperch aren't sold in stores really and that they are predatory. Could I not get one? also if I couldn't get one what would be the order I put them in if I replaced it with something like a scooter blenny or swissgaurd basslet

Sandperch are sold in stores everywhere, at least in my area. I have seen them in many a small tank with small fish, but I have not kept one at home. They have a reputation of being hardy.

Can someone who has kept the Sandperch chime in on this?
