Tank is looking much better. The diatom bloom is gone and there has been a great increase in coralline algae growth. Introduced a few new coral about two weeks ago kedds reds, pink coco's zoa's and green star polyps.

results of water test
nitrate 20 ppm
nitrite 0 ppm
pH 8.0
Ammonia 0
Calcium 425 ppm
Alkalinity 11.5

I'm thinking about adding a new fish in about a week, any suggestions? (and yes the fish will be in the qt for a couple weeks before it goes in the main tank)
current occupants:
1 false percula
1 cleaner shrimp
6 hermit craps
1 emerald crap
2 turbo snails
3 bumble bee snails

Question about fire fish I am looking to add one to my tank but I read that they are jumpers has anyone had any experience with this. Any other suggestion on fish. (In my last post I included a current stock list)
I am also going to increase my sand bed depth in the next few day any suggestion on how best to accomplish this.
Do I mix the new and old sand after placeing the new sand in the tank?
or any other suggestions or comments.

The crabs are probably killing each other, fighting over shells. You could try adding a dozen or so shells to the tank of the appropriate size and see how it goes. I just buy them at craft stores. Make sure they are do not have a glossy coating.

Sorry I missed the sand question before. When you add the new sand, add it directly on top of the existing sand. Do not mix it. Monitor the water quality carefully for a couple of days after, because it is possible that some life in the existing sand bed will die at a greater sand depth. By the way, make sure you have less than 1'' depth, or have greater than 4''. You do not want a depth between 1'' and 4''.

You have 40 pounds of sand now, yes? Measure the depth and then calculate how many more pounds to reach 4''. Don't skimp, be sure to get to 4''+.

I would wait a week or so, just to be safe. Never a reason to rush.

I have taken this to heart. I haven't added a fish in 6 weeks. I am looking to add a royal gamma or yellow headed jaw fish any suggestions on which way would be best. (Or maybe something else)
Pasfur, Thank for your suggestions with the ALK. problem it has been corrected and I am experiencing good coralline algae growth.
