Briefly...

For anyone setting up a new reef, the problem with this thread is the sand depth. If you are going to use sand, use a minimum of 3'', preferably 4''. This will allow for denitrification and a zero nitrate reading. If you can't go 3'' minimum, then run your system bare bottom.
