My tank has been running for about a year and a half, I started out with a 47 gallon and came across a sweet deal for my 85 about 2 months ago. the only things I put inside my tank are
-purple up
-kent iodine
-Instant Ocean Salt
Micro-vert for the coral
vita-chem and garlic extreme for the fish
lights
power compacts 384 watts
filtration
overhead sump
2217 eheim canister
404 fluval canister
Aqua C Remora skimmer
3 power heads
filtered tap water using PUR filtration system
as far as perimeters the only thing I check for is salinity and temperature. I understand that many hobbiest check for nitrate, nitrite, ph, etc. The only reason I only check these two perimeters is 10 years ago a fish store owner from Visalia, California told me (once I got to know him better) I make a killing selling all of these test sets, test sets are not 100% its only a recommendation. he said to be successful you,
1. have patience let your tank cycle
2. use filtered water
3. have proper salinity and temperature
4. use as little chemicals in your tank as possible
Not knowing too much about the hobby I listened to him...I'm glad I did
