I starting to get some red slimey algae. What
Causes this and what do I do about it?

You could kill your lights and stop feeding until it dies off. Usually a few days. then resume with less feeding and lighting so it doesn't come back. And adjust to keep things clean

You could do this, or you could do that. He asked, what causes it. If you answer that question, there is no need for your lights out and feeding garbage.
