What skimmer to purchase?

I've done some reading on the subject and from what it sounds like most would recommend an protein skimmer that goes in your sump rather than the hang on style. So what brands are good bang for the buck. I've got a 110 gal tank with about a 30 to 40 gal sump. All recommondations are welcome, Thanks in advance.[/code]

Hello,

From what I've read and heard in the high efficiency category a Euro Reef, Aqua- C Pro, or Tunze are tops. Just under high efficiency an Aquamedic would be good choice for bang for the buck.

At today's technology you'd probably be happiest with a needlewheel skimmer. Avoid Coralife as I've heard to many complaints. Check out Deltec (way to pricey IMO), Euroreef (creators of the technology everyone else rips off), ASM (Getting harder to find), Octopus (stealers of ER technology). For a 110g tank expect to pay $200-500 for a good quality skimmer that will provide years of headache less skimming. Cheap skimmers are just that, cheap. They have a tendency to complicate the hobby and cause people to quit altogether.
