can someone please explain to me what a power head is needed for?
i have set up a 30 gal salt tank and this is my first time, ofcourse i have made alot of major mistake, like thinking i was cyling my tank for 2 months when in fact i did nothing at all. it was empty, i also am trying to cylce my tank now that i have four clownfish and two yelow fins in there, i had no idea what i was doing untill it was to late. i have been fighing to keep ph up ammo down and so on so far i have not lost any fish that i have had for a week now. i just added coral reef sand today, hope it dont kill the fish, but back to the topic of powerheads im not sure what the true purpose is if someone could fill me in it would be great!
If u need any help with your sw tank feel free to post as many questions so u can avoid any other mistakes. A power head is used to create a current in your tank. It is necessary for water to circulate through out your whole tank to avoid dead spots wich may end up causing algae. They are also be used with underwater gravel filters and UV steralizers to get water flowing thru the equipment.
for water current purposes of the powerhead, how long should it be turned on for a day ? or should i not turn it off ? i usually turn on my power head at 11am and turn it off 10pm and i notice when i turn off my power head all my fish stops moving and tries to sleep as if they are dead specially my clown fish and there were times at 3am i try to power on the powerhead and all my fish suddenly starts moving around again as if they were disturbed from their sleep ?
can someone explain my situation and give me advice ?
You must never disconnect your powerheads - does the ocean shut off at 10pm?
Corals require strong current so they can keep themselves clean and often times the current can be a main supplement of nutrients. Keep the water column active all the time.
wow first off I just want to say as polite as I can you need to read alot before you go much farther!!!
as far as light fish need at least 40W of light to help they keep a good slim coat that protects them. I run My lights 9 hours but I also run 900W of MH lighting. I would say no more then 12 hours but more then 8 hours
Folks, i think this guy is just messing with us all. This does not sound like a real thread.
If you really need help, give us some details of your setup. Tank size, filter type, fish selection, water parameters. In fact, i'd like to see a picture. I just don't believe you even have an aquarium.
The purpose of a powerhead is to circulate the water in the aquarium as the water circulates in a wild reef
