UV Sterilizer

I would like to purchase a UV sterilizer but I have no idea where to start. I am not using a sump so I need a product which can be hung over the tank or placed on the floor with inlet/outlet tubing or something of that sort.

I have found one product that looks good but want to know if you have any experiences with this particular product.

Which wattage would I need for a 40 gallon tank, how do you calculate the wattage you would need?

Thanks,

Foster&smith have a good presentation on these uv sterilizers. I decided against one due to the fact that they destroy beneficial bacteria and the forums frown on them in freshwater i don't know about salt tho, so someone who knows more will have to guise you.

Ya so now the more I read into these devices, the less I think I want one. All I've read or heard are "yeah it kills the bad stuff but just as much, kills the good stuff". I think i'll pass on this one.

This is a total fabrication from hobbyists who have no experience with using UV's. Although the use of a UV sterilizer is certainly optional, they are extremely wide spread and highly recommended by those WHO ACTUALLY USE THEM. I have never in my nearly 20 years of marine experience met a single person who used a UV that expressed any degree of dissatisfaction. I have, however, met hundreds of people who have never used a UV that say they are harmful, despite having absolutely no experience with the product.

As you probably guessed, I use UV's on all my marine systems, including reef. If I am not mistaken, OF2F does the same.
