Sump/Canister?

Sump/Canister
Ok so I purchased a used 75g tank that had a fluval 405 & 205, a eheim profesional(2227) and a seaclone 150 skimmer. Now I thought this was a good purchase and would save me $$. From looking around on here now that I have found this site I am seeing that maybe I didnt do so good. Once I get the tank going this weekend and then get the tank cycled I plan to have a FOWLR tank in which it came with 70 - 75lbs of live rock. I want to get better lighting and then purchase some coals down the road once I get experience. Do I have to get a Sump? If not will I end up with a huge Nitrate problem?

Thanks in advance

Nitrates will be helped greatly by the use of a deep sand bed. That is 4'' to 5'' of aragonite sand. I run a DSB in my reef and the Nitrate has remained zero since the 2nd month.

The sump provides the benefit of greatly water volume, an area for a refugium, and a method to hide the equipment without taking away from the overall beauty of the display. I would recommend a sump, yes. In fact, i will be using a sump system on both my 58 bowfront FOWLR and my 180 reef.

What is a DSB? Maybe I will add more sand, I have 40lbs in my 75g. That way I will hopefully be ok until I can swing a sump.
