The cabinet my 55 is sitting on is only 8" wide inside. I was going to put a glass tank under and convert it to a sump. I can't find one less than 12" in width. Any ideas [cheap] on what to use to make a sump?
Length and height are big enough
Your best bet is to not put the sump under the tank. You could build a small cabinet to set beside the aquarium, perhaps as a TV stand or book case. The sump could sit underneath this cabinet. Take a look at Austin's original sump design on his 75 reef build. (Pictures & Video's area)
If you only have an 8'' width, you will have a difficult time with sump space.
I agree with pasfur, you'll have a hard time finding anything decent 8"w. You could use a drop system to where it goes above and pours into the tank, if you have the room of course.
