does anyone have any suggestions about protein skimmers. i have a 55 gallon tank with 45 lbs of lr and a couple damsels. i am looking to spend around $300 for it.
well from reccomendations (not from experiance) the AquaC remora series skimmers are good, you could get one at around 100-200 dollars if you are gonna buy one second hand
For a 55g with a sump I'd buy a Euroreef RS80. A second good option for sump would be to get the largest ASM you can find for your price. They are Euroreef clones and you might end up with one rated for a 200g tank that you can use if you ever upgrade. For a hang on tank, I'd buy a Deltec ME300, which is right at your limit for price. Less quality options would be the Coralife 220 Super skimmer. Don't buy the 125 or 64, reports are coming int hat the pumps are not as good and fail early.
For the money you are willing to spend I'd avoid the AquaC. I recommend them to nano guys with tanks of about 24g or less.
Just post the URL directly from cut and paste. Your link does not work. I'm placing a wholesale order tomorrow and ASM units are dirt cheap this week. Prolly 250g units for about $300 in sump. I can read the word Fission in the description. IF it's the little nano skimmer for abotu $40 they are absolute garbage.
for everyone you need to cut and paste to see this link, the forum isnt alowing the (and) to be in the hyperlink causing a part of it to be cut off, i dunno if a mod can fix this but just to let everyone know
Needed some tweaking. Seems to work now. Not to sure about that one as I've yet to meet anyone running it. DEsign seems good though. That site seems to have really high prices, albeit it "free shipping". The shipping price is included in the order price. Have you checked Marine Depot yet?
In my order I placed tonight I could have gotten you an ASM rated for 300g at a cost of $260. I believe it to be rather large though and may not have fit under a stand. The 200g is about $215.
i havent checked out marinedepot yet ill do that tonite, height isnt a problem for me my sump is behind my tank. i am more limited in space behind it. the sump is only 10 gallons but i have about a 14x10 inch area to fit the skimmer and if need be i can do sum rearranging and make more room
