Hi everyone.

Well I have decided to get a Marine tank with a sump which has been custom built for me and collected from the store yesterday but I'm stuck and going around in circles after reading so many different opinions so I thought i'd lay out my plan with you trusted guys and girls..

I have a 240l tank on a cabinet with a 120l sump tank in the cabinet and the shop assistant (although very nice I feel is rubbing his hands together behind my back...!)

The tank measures 122cm Long by 60cm high by 38cm deep

I have purchased so far....:

1 x 600l Skimmer
1 x Marine glo 39watt light
1 x Life Glo 39watt light
2 x light reflectors
1 x power unit for the two lights
1 x Fluval E300 heater
1 x Salinity Refractometer

I am going back tomorrow to purchase a smalll 3000 litre per hour pump some hose connectors and piping.

I will be putting live rock and coral in the tank with the cleaning crew (crab snail shrimp) and then adding fish but got alot to do before that...!

I have the blue pastic chamber in the corner of the tank with a holein the bottom and getting the plastic seal and pipe to feed the water into the sump tank, 1st chamber, with the skimmer into the second chamber and filtered water in the last chamber being pumped back into the tank, oh and getting the shepards crook..?? tomorrow too..

That's about as far as I have got....I know I need to get the salt, live rock and coral sand as well and also a couple of powerheads to circulate the water but any guideance, tips and set up help from connecting everything to adding water please feel free to add your experience......

Thanks
Phil and Allie

hi Phil,

You might a quicker nad more useful answer if you re-post this in the salt-water section of our forum. They'll be a greater help up there...be on the lookout for PasFur!

or maybe a MOD can move this thread, either way, good luck!

Link for skimmer.....

Thank you for the welcome. Felli may become a heavy postee on this site as I seem to more and more equipment and parts. Probably not the best thing to start with little experience...lol but with you guys behind me anything is possible....

Also...

I have fitted the plastic seal and pipe from the tank chamber and connect hose to go into the 1st sump chamber. The skimmer onlt fits on either end due to width of equipment. So does the inlet pipe sit over to the first chamber for the skimmer to skim and the outlet pipe into the 2nd chamber, this water overflows into the 3rd chamber where I have a inlet pipe for the pump which then shoots the water back up into the tank...? The more I write this the more is makes sense (in a way) as I have nothing in the tank I have no other filtering (as the live rock will be that source) I then intend to fill the tank about half way with water and half of the sump to ensure water tightness and all works. Next question I am adding just tap water into the tank but want to get the live rock in. Do I do anything other then put in water then add rock...?

SO Confused and wish I have stopped at a Goldfish...!!!

Thanks
Phil and Allie
