Saltwater from LFS

they are selling it for $1.25 a gallon, i need aroung 50 some gallons, this seems to be priced a little high for me. what do other LFS sell their water for? I've read that distilled water in bottles would be okay, what about if i did half and half? would that be better?

i plan on buying a RO/DI unit in the future, just not to start, maybe tho....if i can get one around 100 bucks, thats only a few more dollars than id be spending on one shot of water from the LFS

Just get an RO unit. Or at least just buy RO water. I would NEVER buy something that requires knowledge from a LFS. All ou need is one mistake and YOU will pay for it. Not them. Buy a bucket of salt and 50 gallons of RO water. At least that way you know what is in it.

sounds good to me. also wouldn't it be more beneficial to have their water becasue of the bacteria in it? or does the bacteria im looking for in having my tank cycle mainly found in the actual sand and rocks. Thanks for the feedback

well it depends if they're giving you water from a running system or just making saltwater. They could be giving you good water but they could also have high ammonia or nitrates and what not. They could also be making saltwater and it have nothing in it but salt. I would just make it myself. You can also buy stuff to get bacteria started in our tank. I like Seachems Stability but there's better stuff out there. I forget what it's called but there's a product that has "real" live bacteria. I think it's called something simple like Cycle or Cycle Start.

Just test the LFS water. I use LFS water. If its fine, buy it if you want.

I'm not saying its the best way. Because in the end, a RO/DI unit is cheaper.

thanks for the input... btw i love ur signature RevernedLoveBoys, i can relate to that even now, im putting off getting gas in my car so i can pick up a skimmer next week....my next purchase will have to be a mountain bike....whatever i can do to put more money in the fish fund.
