Protein Skimmer not collecting

Hello,

I just purchased a hang-on refugium with skimmer from CPR. Everything is working great, I have the collection cup lowered to the base of the collection area about an inch above the bottom of the cone, but the skimmer after 24 hours has not collected anything. I see the foam/bubbles rising up about half-way. If I lower the cup anymore, It fills up relativelt fast. Any Ideas on what I am doing wrong? The tank has been setup for 2 years, and is a 58gallon.

Thanks,
Mike

Skimmers can take a few days to actually collect anything. Do you see any evaporated water or the like? Or anything at all?

You want to position the collection cup so that the water is foaming about 1'' below the cup. As the organics attach to the bubbles, a bond will form and the foam will rise up the tube.

Good quality unit you purchased. FYI - you are at the absolute limit in tank size that it can support.

they can take a few days to a week or so to build up a slime coat inside to properly skim.

Thank you all. It has now builtup a dark lining around the top of the tube and I have noticed that it has filled about a 3rd of the cup in the past 4 days with a yellow thick liquid. It seems to be working now.
