That's actually the preferred way to do it. Glad you see that filter as an issue now rather then later when it becomes the main issue. Good water flow, to keep detritus and excess food off the sand bed, LR or base rock that's established as filtration, and a good skimmer is the best way to go. Another thing you can look into is a refugium...

ya i went with an aqua c remora ps, and i have 30 lbs of fiji base rock coming in shortly. I plan on buying a couple pounds of live rock from the local shop and letting it all cycle for a good while . plan on purchasing a koralia 3 before adding fish... what do you think?

I would use 1 pound of live rock per 2 pounds of base rock at a minimum. The live rock will ready help seed the base rock and give you a nice natural supply of life.

you can order rock online and get some from the LFS to seed it, or better yet look for a local reefing club in your area.

Ya, I already ordered 30 lbs online, and I plan on getting some live rock to seed it, but not as much as I had recommended to me. I have already had a bad experience with a local reefing club reefing club member, and he has been a part of the club for a while....

That's very unfortunate. You should report them to the BOD or Pres before they do anything negative towards another hobbiest.

I did, and faced opposition from the first replier who claims to know this guy very well. Seems like anyone from there little community will take his word before mine; I just go into this, so that does not help my reputation.
