Power Backup for a Reef Tank

I have this idea that I can run a backup sytem to run just my small filter and 100 watt heater from my car battery. I know other folks have done this, but I can't find any details anywhere.

I know I need a DC to AC converter from the cigarette lighter, but have no clue as to the converter size, or any other necessary info to do the job. Obviously, I know that I need to keep the car running!!8) (there is no icon for "duh")

Has anyone done this who can be of some help?

I would not worry about filters in a loss of power, my concern would be getting oxygen into the tank.
During the last blackout in NYC i used DC powerhead's (connect to battery's) pointed at the surface to get oxygen into the tank, while making a lot of SW for water changes.

Something like this:

You can use a computer/backup power source this can give you some time, more time more money.
Gas powered portable generator's Are around $100

As for auto DC converter size i think you need enough to operate PowerHeads IMO, this is more important then filters.
Ice cubes & warm water can be put into ziplock bags and floated for tank temp.
