Lunar LED's

I understand lunar lights are supposed to mimic the moon so does this mean that they should be on the entire night period? It seems like a lot of people here only have them on for a few hours at night. My lighting schedule would be from say 9am to 9pm, could I run the lunar's from 9pm to 9am. It would be nice so I could view my tank at night when the daylights would normally be off.

Unless you are running a high end controller, like Profilux, don't worry about trying to replicate moon light. Just run the LEDS as you see fit for your tank. If you want them on all night, so be it. If you feel they are being wasted after 4 hours, cut them back. If you want to replicate the moon to induce spawning, you'd need to have the lighting stay on for different lengths of time every night as in full moons, half moons, crescent moons, and no moon.
