Lighting questions

I have a few lighting questions....

I have a 55 gallon SW system. You can see a picture of it by going to to get an idea of what I am working with.

Right now I have two clown fish and four snails. I also have about 84lbs of live rock and 40lbs of live sand.

I feel stupid asking this but... I plan to buy the Coralife Aqualight Double Compact Fluorescent Strip Lights. They come with the white light bulbs and the blue bulbs. What is the difference between the two light bulbs and should I keep them on together? If not, what is a good schedule for each?

Also, I would like to get some moon lighting (LEDs), how do I incorporate this into my tank, schedule wise. What do I need to get them installed? A controller of some sort? How many do I need and what color? And where should they be placed inside the tank?

Thanks for your help in advance!

You'll want to get the Coralife Lunar Aqualight Compact Fluorescents

They retail for $230.00, and come equipped with the led moonlights. This is the fixture I currently have on My 55g SW Softies Domanated Reef. These lights are ideal for most soft corals and some low-light LPS.

yes, you run the actinics (blue bulbs) with the daylights (white bulbs), together. The difference is the light temperature, Actinic bulbs emit light predominantly from the blue end of the color spectrum. This recreates light conditions found in deeper water and provides the light energy necessary for proper photosynthetic coral growth. Daylight bulbs emit all the wavelengths of visible light and closely approximates the visual effects of natural sunlight.

I use a lighting schedule as follows:

7am - Moonlights off, Actinics on
9am - Daylights on
7pm - Daylights off
9pm - Actinics off, Moonlights on

Which is set by a Coralife Power Center Dual timer

Take pride in what you do, for it is a reflection of who you are.
