Inlet for sump ideas.

Hi im new to these forums and am just researching my options. I am going to be getting a 180gal tank soon from my uncle for free! It is not drilled yet but I was planning to get the bottom drilled with one hole about an inch and a half (big enough?) and have an overflow type system as seen in this picture I quickly did.

Works with the water flowing through the teeth and down the middle obviously and into my sump. I plan to build it out of PVC. I'd like to get your opinion on this idea or any other idea that would be better.

Thanks in advance, Murnane.

I think that with this design you will hear a "slurping" unless you use a durso standpipe of some sort. I was fighting this with the traditional standpipes in my newer system. I had to drill 5/16" holes in the standpipes and add small lengths of polyethylene tubing. I also had to add another vent at the outlet of the sump. When the rush of water is too fast for the size of the outlet, the flow has to pull air from the point of entry, and the slurping occurs.

Nothing good happens fast in an Aquarium
