I have a few questions about filtering...

Hey guys I finished my 10g fuge this week. I plan on getting my stand together for it and some sand and a light. My question is what do I want to keep in there? A carbon bag or anything else? I have been reading a lot about the filtering systems and am still a little lost. Should I get some cheato? Oh yeah what kind of sand do I want in there? I know there are a lot of sand to choose from. I just want to get this right so I don't make a mistake. The fuge was pretty easy to build.

Thanks guys

I have some zoas in there, clam, mushrooms and some fish. I might try some sps, I just updated my lighting and flow. I will have more coral then fish in there soon.

I like sugar fine, or southdown, sand as it packs tightly. That creates anoxic areas that won't allow large particles to settle into. Some swear that Miracle Mud from EcoSystems is King. It is a fine mud that pods will live within. Then use Cheato algae or Caulerpa. That is really all you need. Maybe a few small pieces of live rock for the pods to live around. Some will put Xenia in the fuge as it grows fast and can be harvested just like an algae. Not to mention you can sell it. Don't forget a light source. Run it 24 hours or opposite your regular light schedule. Have it come on an hour before lights out and stay on an hour after lights on. This will reduce PH swings.
