I have a 110 FOWLR. The K2 is not a great deal of flow but it does well when you aim it to support the return water.

I have a lite load right now, 1 Maroon Clown, 2 Convict Gobi's and 4 Yellow tail Damsels. Still getting it settled from the move. I purchased it 6 weeks ago from a friend, it had been neglected for some time prior to my ownership.

i read somewhere that these shouldnt be run with a wavemaker anyone here run them on one.

yes that is right you shouldn't. get a Tunze if you want to run on wave maker. This is not made to turn off and on all the time. Also it will make a rattling noise when turned back on each time.

I'll add a little information. AC pumps (110-120V powerheads) should not be turned on and off, each time will wear the motor/impeller down. DC pumps (12-24V powerheads) can be turned on and off, but better yet you can throttle them down with no harm. Most of the Tunze style pumps tend to not actually shut down but instead slow down to a trickle while the other pump ramps up.

A little cheaper but a lot uglier, Seio makes AC pumps and a controller for their larger pumps. I know a few people running them but I haven't heard any feedback about pumps wearing out or "clacking" at start up. The controller costs about the same as nice Tunze 7095 multi controller but the Seio pumps are about 1/3rd the price.

sorry, another K4 question that relates to the recent discussion... I just got a single Koralia 4 (will get another if I like it, in the meantime I've also got two MaxiJet 1200's). I'm wondering about the noise at startup (or noise during operation at all).

I've seen the earlier comments about the noise it makes at startup, and indeed mine is making it as well. However, its now been turned on for a good 5-10 minutes, and is still making some noise (though not as much as right when it turned on). In your experience, how long does it take for the noise to subside, or does it ever completely subside? So far I really like the flow, but if it won't shut up then I'm going to have to jettison it. Its definitely not rattling against the side of the tank or anything else. It just makes a vibrating noise that every so often goes away and its completely quiet, but very quickly comes back.

cool, thanks for the responses guys. I ended up taking it out of the tank, then completely disassembling it and re-assembling it, and now it runs super-quiet. There must have been something wrong with how it was assembled out of the box, but its fixed now :)
