help with skimmer

i have a turbo flotor mult sl on my new 75 aga. It is external to the sump. THe problem I have is that it fiills up sooo fast, and looks as if the collection cup will over flow. Also, It is competeing with the return pump for water in the sump.... do I need to put more water in there? I am afraid if I do I will pass my maximum fill line for the sump. Sump is only 16 gallons... is there a problem here?

I'm afraid we need some pictures. These things are so hard to understand without looking at the exact situation.

im not familiar with this skimmer so i dont know if it has a gate valve or a tower to raise/lower but your going to prob. want to start by adjusting one of the two. next guess would be the pump and if its the proper one/model/size for the skimmer.
