do i need uv

tank running fine no major problems except odd outbreak of algae i'm thinking of installing a uv sterelizer simply to control algae and other pests but am unsure whether i will be doing more harm than good have introduced some soft coral its going well but was advised uv would give me more water clarity any help would be appreciated confused

I bought a uv sterilizer and it did absolutely nothing to prevent algae. I thought it such a waste of money I threw it away 6 months after purchase.

Somebody in an LFS suggested to me that after my latest bout of ich is over I setup a UV sterilizer because it can prevent ich. Is there any truth to that? If so, that's more than enough reason for me to add one to my aquarium after what I'm going through now with ich...

It can destroy ich but the ich must pass through the UV sterilizer which means you cannot completely eliminate the ich.

Sure it can if it is large enough. It will also kill any spores, phyto, larva, etc... that could benefit your tank. After setting up a UV and CO3 generator was that all my tiny snails, copepods, worms, etc... died and never came back. I had to reseed my tank to get micor organisms thriving again.
