i post this in the DIY section with little responce so i guess i will ask here...
i am considering (not sure yet) building a 10 or 20 gallon nano salt tank
i am not sure if i want fish in it at this point perhaps just corrals and shrimp
i am looking for any ideas on a DIY skimmer that would be good for this type of situation
i read some where you could make one out of an old fresh water HOB but i could not find plans
any ideas would be great it does not have to be a HOB but keep in mind i am not looking to use a sump and it will be a small display .....

you want the sump as a display to or did i read that wrong?
i think i saw pasfur make a DIY 2 liter soda bottle skimmer at one point, but long term i dont know how effective any DIY skimmer would be. in a 10 or 20 gallon tank you may just be better off with a 1/2 gallon water change every week or two. maybe you could use the HOB filter without a cartridge and make a mini 2 liter skimmer out of a water bottle that could fit inside the HOB. again, dont know how effective but would make a cheap enough experiment to find out if your up to it.

no other input here???
what about a bottle type (probably use an old tube from a gravel vac) that sits in the back corner of the tank? still an air lift type.. i have found some cool designs but want some more input on this...
