cleaning the sponge on my nano 24

tank nano 24 when do you need to clean the sponge or change the filter bags

You do a good cleaning every month or so. What do the bags contain. If they contain carbon, wash one month after inresting then replace on second month.

55 G 4x1.7x1.7
Emperor 400, Fluval 404, undergravel, Resun Cl300 Chiller
1 Blue damsel, 1 yellow tail damsel
1 Koran Angle
1 Long Noise Hawk
6 month old tank

55G 4x2x1
Self-built wetdry, undergravel, Seaclone 100, Turbo Twist 9w
1 Queen Angle juvenile about 6 inch long,, 1 maroon clown fish,
1 hawaiian turkey fish (lion). 1 blue damsel
3 year old tank

I say get rid of the filter bags. And then just rinse the sponge in the tank water that you take out when you do water changes. IN my nano I have 1 sponge and thats it. Thats just to catch depris. Some one will ask then how are you filtering the waste out the water. In a 14 gallon I have 20lbs of live rock and the back is filled with macro algea.

It all depends on what you have in the tank. If you have enough live rock in there that will be your filter. Live rock acts as a filter. Macro algea is a algea that is good to keep somewhere in the water flow to consume all the nutrients in the water.

what does this algie look like is it a certian color or look to be different , also found a weard thing i took out a piece of lr and it was stuck togeather by somekind of white snail looking think i didnt ripe it but it wasent there when i started the tank does the rock start to grow togeather somehow , very strainge
