What size pump do I need?

Many hobbyists try to use their return pump to create massive flow in their display tank. This almost always creates microbubble problems. The flow going through the sump should be 3x to 5x the volume of the display tank. Most return pumps can easily provide that much flow without creating any microbubbles. For additional flow, consider a closed loop.

wow i relly messed up. Why dident anyone ever tell me this before i went out and bought a 650 gph hour pump! Well its too late to point the finger of blame, so now i need to find a solution. Any ideas? I know i can slow my flow useing a certain technique but than all my pvc work would be for nothing any i willl need to find a new source for flow in my tank.

In our defense i believe your pump was a gift was it not? I think I recall you telling us what pump you got, not the other way round. I think you could make your system a closed loop very easily.
