activated carbon and mhlle

does anyone know if activated carbon plays a role in causing mhlle? my yellow tang had mhlle and he recovered nicely and i have been working hard to get my tank in good condition before purchasing a blue tang. but i have been reading horror stories of activated carbon in filters causing it. know i suspect that is what caused my yellow tang to fall prey to it, maybe my blue tang will follow. any opinions?
