10 gallon with chiller?

Would a ten gallon tank with a 50 watt metal halide over it in a 73 degree appartment need a chiller? In the summer the appartment may get to 80 degrees, at that point I would assume I need a chiller. Do you use a heater in the winter and a chiller in the summer? Are they both in the tank at once?

I have a heater but it's not even plugged in. During the day with lights on, the temperature peaks at 25.5C. When the lights are off, it stabilizes at 24C.

It's the beginning of winter now though, we will see if the heater gets plugged in or not - hopefully my furnace will keep it in check. Not sure about chillers - never used them. Although I'd imagine it's a fine investment if temperature swings are common, they're definitely big no-nos.

good luck.

Tanks: 40 gal FW setup, 10 gal Reef tank.

You can buy much cheaper units for a 10g than most any other tank. They work using a metal probe to draw heat up to a fan that blows it away instead of an actual freon compressor. Some like Iceprobe use a voltaic current that runs back and forth over dissimilar metals causing temps to drop about 8F.
