Farlowellas and Pleco
I have 2 well established Farlowella catfish, and they are doing geat
I am thinking about adding a pleco...a small one like a Bristlenose Pleco
I do not think that there will be any issues with the pleco and the Farlowellas
Anyone have any experience or advise for this
I would not, only because both species are after the same food. And by this i do not mean squabbling over algae or something--though they might--but both are expert at grazing common algae and aufwuchs from all surfaces, and with two Farlowella I would perhaps add a third but not a similar-feeding species.
Are they the Farlowella vitatta, the common smaller form in our profiles?
I am with Byron, between the khulii loaches ,catfish, the Bristlenose would be much more likely to get lion's share of foods meant for them, and bristlenose could easily out compete the more laid back farlowella for food as well.
Were it me,, I would not be looking to add a fish capable of producing same amount of waste as a half dozen tetra's in already crowded tank. Just my two cent's.
Would be saving money for larger tank.8-)
Silly me, didn't even notice the fish list. I agree, no more fish. More plants would help though, if you only have one sword. They pygmy chain sword would be ideal as it grows fast to assimilate nutrients.
I would agree with what has been said. Adult male plecos can be very aggressive. Even if they did not kill the farlowella they will probably stress them greatly.
Thanks for the replys...I will shy away from the pleco for this tank...hopefully will be setting up a larger tank in the near future
