I actually got a lot of nice rocks at a stone yard today......36lbs for 6 bucks........
the owner told me he knows how expensive it can be at the LFS b/c he sells it to them..........lol
everything he had was .10 to .30 cents a pound.........
how would you recomend cleaning them for use in my tank.......?
i was thinking:
-pour boiling water over them
-let them sit in a bucket of water for a day or two
-place in tank
Thats about what I do to clean my rocks. Do you know what the rocks are? After you clean them well and let them dry, drop a few drops of vinegar or diluted hydrochloric acid on them. If they fizz you shouldn't use them, if they don't than they are probably ok. Some rocks are made of minerals that will slowly turn into dissolved minerals in your fish tank causing high pH and GH. is good for some fish but not for in general. I only say because it looks kinda like sandstone.
a couple of pieces might be, but i think the rest is flat river rock or field stone..........
I use a pressure washer, then boil them.
