I have a pleco will it grow?
I have a pleco. It's just an average one. It's in a 50gal tank with other mates (not plecos) Will he grow? if he does how big in how long?
Plecs are catfish, not livebearers. Best to ask a mod to move it because you'll probably get more replies that way.
Do you know what type of plec it is? If not then the chances are high that it's a common plec. In which case it will grow, given good water quality, to approx a foot long. In bad water quality its growth will be stunted and it will die. :(
Time to start thinking about an upgrade in tank size. :)
An average pleco would have meant common pleco. There are plenty of species considered as common plecos with which two species Pterygoplichthys pardalis and Hypostoums plecostomus are the most commonly seen ones. The former grows to 18 inches at most whereas the latter can reach 22 inches and more. Either way, the 50g will still be too small.
how can i post the fish picture. i tried on my other post (too many fish for parrot chiclids?) but nothing came up. if i find out how i can post a picture. But otherwise i'll have to look it up on the internet.
