Help! Male Or Female Mollies?
I bought these 3 mollies about 2 months ago under the impression that 1 was male and 2 were female, im only questioning this now as:
>the 2 "females" haven't had any fry
>im sure that there anal fin is the same as the males
>and im sure they have been swinging it sideways like the male does when trying to mate but its hard to tell the difference between the 3.
heres some pics, any help would be nice :)
My friend did the same thing, bought a molly thinking it was a male and sure enough a little while later 6 little fry popped out. The best way to tell from what i have read is the males front fins on their belly are more tubular shaped and the females look more like a normal fin. In my unprofessional opinion yours look like males.
Those are all male. Notice the fin at the underbelly of the fish. It is long and thin and unattached from the body. This indicated a male. A female will have the same fin, but it will be shorten and fan shaped attached to the underbelly.
this is a female.
I see 3 boys!
Maybe you can trade 2 males for 2 females
If you could, try taking 2 of the males back and trading for 2 females. You need more females than males in order to have some fry. These are definitely all males. They may try to mate with each other anyway, but no fry will result! Good luck!
